Volleyball
Returning home to the East Gym provided a boost the Humboldt State volleyball team needed as the 'Jacks just missed sweeping a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association games.
The 'Jacks dominated Saturday's game against Cal State Monterey Bay as Humboldt State made few mistakes in a 3-0 sweep of the Otters. The 'Jacks built an early advantage, but the Otters battled back to the game at 24. The two teams went back and forth, but Humboldt State pulled out a 30-28 win in the first match. The second match also remained close as neither team could build a comfortable lead. Like the first match, Humboldt State edged Cal State Monterey with a 30-26 win. The third and final match belonged to Humboldt State as the 'Jacks sealed the victory with a 30-24 win.
A day earlier the 'Jacks faced the Sonoma State Seawolves. Despite winning the first two matches, the 'Jacks couldn't hold on for the victory as Sonoma State rallied to defeat Humboldt State 3-2. Despite double-digit kills from junior outside hitter Lynsey Adams, senior muddle blocker Megahn Berndt, and junior outside hitter Mallory Briney, Humboldt State's offense couldn't finish off Sonoma State in the final three matches.
With only three games to go in the season, the 'Jacks will look to make the most of what remains of the 2007 season. Next on the schedule is a pair of home conference games. On Friday the 'Jacks host the UC San Diego Tritons. The following evening Humboldt State takes on the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles in what will be the final home game for several seniors. Both games are at 7 p.m. in the East Gym.
Men's Soccer
Sonoma State spoiled the final game of the 2007 season for the Humboldt State men's soccer team, as the Seawolves dominated a 5-0 win on Sunday. The offense had trouble finding the back of the next and the defense couldn't keep the Seawolves, who came into the game ranked No. 11 in the country, off the scoreboard.
The men's team ends the year with an overall record of 7-12-1 and 3-10-1 in the CCAA. This was the final game for seniors Jon Eseman, Trel Mangarin, Keith Lovell, and Eric Webster.
Women's Soccer
The final game of the season for the Humboldt State women's soccer team didn't end on a high note as the Sonoma State Seawolves shutout the 'Jacks 1-0.
The game, which was played at Arcata High School instead of the HSU Soccer Field due to construction, went scoreless through regulation and through the first overtime. In the second overtime the Seawolves broke through the 'Jacks' defense
The women's soccer team finished the 2007 season with a 4-13-3 overall record. In the CCAA the 'Jacks were 2-11-1. The game was the final one for senior Elissa White.
Football
There wasn't a game this past weekend as the Humboldt State football team had the week off. This weekend the 'Jacks will play in the Redwood Bowl for the final time this season. On Saturday at 6 p.m. Humboldt State takes on the Southern Oregon Raiders.
Cross Country
Like football, the Humboldt State cross country teams had the weekend off. This weekend both teams will compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II West Regional in Boise, Idaho.
