I am writing to you as the wife of a CSU employee, as an alumnus of Humboldt State University, and as a human being who cannot in good conscience stand idle as an injustice is being committed.
The CSU is an institution known for providing quality education, at a reasonable price, to the students of our State. It is the combined efforts of the administration, the faculty, and the staff to contribute to this quality of education, most of whom provide loyal service to this institution. They believe in their work and are dedicated employees.
I am disheartened to hear that the CSU system has once again shown its disloyalty to university staff throughout the CSU system. As the cost of living increases year after year it is criminal to not provide staff with wage increases to compensate for the increases in cost of living, and yet take pay increases and stipends yourselves in order to pad your already inflated bank accounts. Do you really need another Mercedes or a second luxury vacation home Mr. President?
It is the true mark of great leadership to put your subordinates before yourself. In lean times such as these, when the CSU system falls victim to yet another round of budget cuts, how can you take an 10% plus increases in pay to your already bloated six figure salaries, while many CSU can barely afford to support their families, let alone purchase a home, support children, save for their futures, and do all of the necessary things that many of you take for granted.
In closing, my husband has given HSU six years of his life. In that time, the only progression he has seen are cost of living increases. He has never seen a single in range progression or a promotion. I am glad that all you Presidents have all this time to worry about yourselves and no time to worry about us little guys and gals. I remember growing up learning from my parents that you care about the places you work for, that you go to work everyday and you make your job your own and that your job will take care of you, now I wonder if that's true. All I see the managers of HSU doing is taking care of themselves, not the staff and sure as hell not the students.
