Personally, I'm a sucker for venues with a comfortable indoor/outdoor combo.
Muddy's Hot Cup, previously Muddy Waters, has just that. This house-turned-coffee shop has a serene front yard to chill in and people watch, as well as a spacious backyard to get fresh air during a show.
This has a number of advantages; you can give your ears a break if the music is too loud. If you don't like the music you can grab a drink, coffee or beer, and go sit outside and talk with friends. There's a stage and they clear the room of chairs and tables for dancing. Although it's a small venue, it is well-designed for shows and they have a stage so one can manage to get a view of the band even when it's crowded.
Patron of the hot cup, Carolyn Zeibig, a pre-nursing major at Humboldt State University, likes the venue because, "It's small and intimate, they serve beer and coffee, and the crowd is young and eclectic with a sprinkling of older folk."
Muddy's offers wide variety of musical styles, from DJ's to bluegrass. The shows are all ages and they start at 9 p.m. and cover charges vary depending on the show.
Muddy's employee, Myer Gold said, "It's copasetic to people actually meeting each other and having a good time."
