A toast to KHSU and the Blue Lake Casino as they host the First Annual KHSU on Tap, an afternoon of beer, wine, and music in support of local public radio this Saturday at the Sapphire Palace in Blue Lake from 3-9 p.m.
The community is pulling resources together and contributions to raise funds for KHSU. Businesses around Arcata have donated many items to help with the benefit.
"KHSU is actively seeking more ways to create community partnerships and collaborations," said Station Manager Elizabeth Hans McCrone.
"We're excited by this opportunity to work
with the Blue Lake Casino and our other business partners on behalf of public radio. We invite everyone to come out, join the fun, and support local, independent media while doing so."
Beer tasting will be in full effect for brew lovers as several regional brewing companies pour their finest throughout the afternoon.
Lost Coast, Eel River, Mad River, Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, Mendocino, and North Coast brewing companies will be there, so expect to wait in line for some of their tapped samples.
Briar Bush from Lost Coast Brewery said this is a great opportunity for the brewery to get out there and support the community at the benefit.
Trinidad's Moonstone Crossing Wines and Willow Creek's Dogwood Estate Winery will be giving samples of their premier wine selections as well.
"KHSU On Tap is a great opportunity because KHSU is one of the only independent radio stations that gets funding from its listeners," said Louie Rodriguez, a reporter for KHSU. "Using alcohol to outreach for the benefit is effective because it's embracing the mainstream culture of beer and wine drinkers here in Humboldt County."
Brew and wine isn't all in store for the afternoon.
An eclectic mix of Humboldt County bands will rock the stage during the benefit. The sounds of Falling Rocks, Rob Diggins and Friends, KHSU's own Dub Cowboy, and cow-punk band The Rubberneckers will set the soundtrack for all those in attendance.
For all the empty stomachs, tickets will provide both a veggie and non-veggie chili bar, corn bread, and coleslaw for munchies. They also include a 4 oz. commemorative tasting glass for drinks.
An auction will be held where all kinds of goodies will be available for bidding. For those interested, Blue Lake Casino is giving out a $5 coupon to try out the slots.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and $20 for current KHSU members. Tickets are available at the Works, the Metro, People's Records, and the HSU ticket office. It's 21 and over so ID's are a must.
