HSU Professor Hit by Car

Bicyclist accident causes major injuries.

HSU geology professor, Harvey Kelsey, sustained major injuries on Tuesday when he was struck by a suspected hit and run driver.

According to CHP press release, Tracy Cooke, 36, of McKinleyville contacted police the next day. CHP officers conducted a brief interview and felony hit and run charges are being sought through the Humboldt District Attorney's Office.

Ms. Cooke was not arrested, as she is not considered a flight risk

Kelsey was riding north on U.S. Highway 101 at about 12:30 pm when he was hit by a late-model pick up truck.

Professor Harvey is recovering in a hospital in Santa Rosa. Cards may be sent through the geology department office.

According to posts on the Green Wheels message board, Kelsey way known as a "strong and skilled rider who often rides at noon between classes"
