Weekly Venue Review - The Pearl

An exclusive club in Eureka? How does that work? The Pearl is a posh bar with food and music and middle-aged ladies in leather skirts. The mixed drinks are overpriced but delicious, and they have the cheapest beer to my knowledge ($3 a pint). While it is a delightful venue for a small group of friends to have a beer or two and chat, it would be horrible for more than 20 people and a band.
The lounge is decorated in a modern metallic motif, with color-changing bar and uncomfortable chairs. It's visually interesting.
It's basically a glorified hallway, making it decidedly lacking as a performance venue.
Recently, they had a Weezer cover band play a 90's grunge-rock party. Fun, but the hallway aspect was frustrating. There is no stage so if you want to see the band you have to stand right in front. In the process, getting your ears blasted by the monitors and the speakers at the same time.
Every once in a while they have must-go-to bands and when that happens, just put up with the tiny hallway venue, and go for the music. But for the most part, avoid the Pearl unless it's just you and a couple friends.

As a bar owner, I take offense at the review in the May 2nd edition of the lumberjack. I understand the constant challenge of keeping customers returning again and again. (Continued…)
