I picked up the paper today, and I see a story about knocking down Humboldt State University’s Natural Resource School a peg or two. While I see a lot wrong with what is being taught at this school, I could also see how this story illustrates we are not headed to a good place and to ask everyone if it isn’t time to stop ignoring the following story?

In this country, we are a long ways down the road towards shutting down proper and wise use of natural resources. The reduction of the rangeland program and other resources related programs by Humboldt State University and other schools illustrates a lack of understanding of what is really happening. Erroneous, sky-is-falling, theorized, unproven protectionist thinking is winning the day, and the need for field experienced people using historical peer reviewed and proven science and site specific facts to make things better is slowly being taken away. The destruction of rural communities which depend on the use of natural resources to exist will not be the only casualty as this country becomes a consumer nation dependent on routinely detrimentally produced products from the rest of the world. Future wars will not just be fought over oil.
