The future University alumni center has changed locations and will now sit next to the northwest corner of the University's new basketball arena. The new alumni center, which will be built simultaneously with the arena and a new academic learning services center for student athletes, was originally designed to be situated next to the learning center on the corner of Franklin Boulevard and East 13th Avenue.

Last Wednesday Terri Irwin, widow of "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, signed a Memo of Understanding at the CH2M Hill Alumni Center with the Marine Mammal Institute at OSU.

The agreement will allow Bruce Mate, director of the Marine Mammal Institute, to lead two humpback whale research projects to American Samoa and the Aleutian Islands.

The start of the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials has spurred an underground market for tickets, as ticket holders try to sell unwanted passes. Ticket holders are trying to sell tickets outside the Trial entrance, through the UO ticket office and on the Web.

On June 18, extravagant donor and Oregon State alumnus Martin N. Kelley died of cancer at the age of 80 in his Lake Oswego home.

Kelley, who graduated from Oregon State College in 1950, made a number of contributions to the engineering department at OSU after he left.

A group of activists have been calling out the Eugene Police Department recently for what it says is grossly out-of-hand treatment of the city's homeless community. Members of the Lane County Students for a Democratic Society say they have been receiving accounts of police oppression from homeless people and social service workers who work with the homeless on a daily basis.

Corvallis soon to dial up new area code

Move over 541. Oregonians will be adding another area code for numbers outside of the Portland Metro area.

In 2010, Corvallis residents and other Oregonians living in area code 541 will see the addition of new area code. The area code expansion is being implemented as a means to increase the supply of available phone numbers.

One day after record oil costs and a slump in the stock market, Arcata opened an electric car charging station downtown. Funded by the City as a one-year pilot program, the program has been in development for over four years. Mayor Mark Wheetley said that the city isn't sure what to expect with the new program, and changes are possible in the future.
